Keeping values current

Two ways to update, and how to record last month properly.

Update Values — the fast way

From the Dashboard, tap Update Values. Everything you own and owe is listed on one screen with its current figure. Change the ones that moved and leave the rest alone — only the records you actually change get a new history entry.

Accounts that change often are listed first. Vehicles, property, valuables and household goods sit in a collapsed group at the bottom, since they rarely need touching.

Recording a past month-end

Change Value as of to the date the figures belong to — the last day of the month, say — and the whole screen reloads to match that date:

This is what makes a back-dated update trustworthy: an untouched row counts as unchanged, so saving cannot quietly stamp today's figures onto a past date.

Changing the date clears what you have typed The values on the screen describe one specific date, so switching dates reloads them all. If you have unsaved edits the app asks before discarding them.

Updating one asset in detail

Open an asset and tap Update Value. This screen adds two things the bulk screen does not: a note explaining the change, and — for a holding in another currency — the ability to type the exact exchange rate that applied on the valuation date. See Foreign currency.

It also shows the last five recorded values, so you can see the history you are adding to.

Why history matters

Every value you record is kept with its date. That history is what the Wealth Growth Trend report draws on, and what lets any report be run for a date in the past. The more regularly you update, the more the app can tell you.

A habit worth forming Pick one day a month — the first weekend works well — and update everything for the previous month-end in a single pass. Twelve short sessions a year give you a full year of history.
